If you have zero tolerance for downtime, renting with a local dealer and a service contract may be the better answer, even if it costs more. Buying under pressure always involves a judgment call about how much uncertainty you can carry.
There is also the possibility that a crawler crane simply doesn't fit the work. If the jobsite changes weekly and road moves are frequent, a truck crane or telehandler might be better equipment. But if you are looking specifically at Manitowoc crawler cranes, the reputation of the model will not save you if the particular unit has no records and no parts plan.
